Happiest Cities in America includes Aurora, IL

The U.S. Declaration of Independence speaks about the “pursuit of happiness” as a universal right. However, everyone gets joy from different things, whether it’s family, friends, activities, entertainment or work. What people might not realize is that where you live may also determine how happy you are.

Location plays a hand in how bright or gloomy our days are. For years, researchers have studied the science of happiness and found that its key ingredients include a positive mental state, healthy body, strong social connections, job satisfaction and financial well-being. However, money can only make you so happy – people who make $75,000 a year won’t get any higher satisfaction from more money. Consider also the fact that while the U.S. is one of the richest countries, it ranks only 19th on the World Happiness Report.

But not everywhere in the U.S. experiences a uniform level of happiness. As this study aims to illustrate, moving to a certain city may help you be more content. WalletHub drew upon the various findings of positive-psychology research in order to determine which among more than 180 of the largest U.S. cities is home to the happiest people in America. We examined each city based on 30 key indicators of happiness, ranging from depression rate to income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day. Read on for our findings, methodology and expert commentary from a panel of researchers.

One Future GM Electric Vehicle May Be Introduced Earlier Than Planned

Despite the pandemic, GM is moving forward with its EVs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in widespread disruptions and delays throughout the auto industry. Despite this, General Motors’ future EVs are still on track, as outlined by GM CEO Mary Barra during the recent first-quarter 2020 earnings call. Now, it looks as though one future GM electric vehicle could even arrive earlier than planned.Source: One Future GM Electric Vehicle May Be Introduced Earlier Than Planned

In a recent call with journalists, the Vice President of Electric and Autonomous Vehicles at GM, Ken Morris, indicated that one EV program may be pulled forward.

As reported by Inside EVs, Morris made the statement following a question raised by Bengt Halvorson from Green Car Reports. Morris did not detail which GM electric vehicle would possibly see an early introduction, but indication that any future GM electric vehicle was moving ahead of schedule certainly comes as a surprise.

What’s more, Morris indicated that several other GM electric vehicle-related plans remained unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that GM’s deal with Honda to produce two new electric vehicles was still moving ahead, and that plans to source new renewable energy from DTE were also on track. Morris also said that GM’s $25 billion budget for EV programs was still in place.

Despite assertions that the GM electric vehicle strategy was moving ahead as intended, the COVID-19 pandemic has nevertheless resulted in at least a few delays, most notably with the debut of the Cadillac Lyriq crossover and the debut of the GMC Hummer EV pickup. The upcoming reveal of the refreshed Chevrolet Bolt EV has also been pushed back.

Still, Morris’ assertion that the automaker’s overarching strategy remains unaffected comes as good news for those eager to see the new GM electric vehicles.

As a reminder, GM has declared that it will introduce at least 20 new all-electric vehicles by 2023. Prior to the nationwide lockdowns put in place in response to the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S., GM held an EV Day event where it revealed its new Ultium battery technology and previewed future GM EV models like an electric Buick crossover. GM is targeting one million EV sales by 2025.

Someone Converted This 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Into A Practical Little Pickup

This custom Chevrolet Caprice pickup is currently for sale at a used car dealership in Pennsylvania for $7,995. Check out the listing at this link for some more photos and information on the world’s only Chevy El Caprice-o.

Looking for a real pickup?   Check out the inventory at Ron Westphal Chevrolet or call them now at 630-898-9630.

The Chevrolet El Camino went out of production after the 1987 model year, but there are some GM fans who still seek that combination of passenger car maneuverability and pickup truck practicality. While this 1991 Chevrolet Caprice pickup conversion isn’t the only homemade El Camino-style vehicle we’ve seen, it’s probably one of the better ones. This project car is still a work in progress, but the previous owner has already done most of the hard work in converting the rear end of the sedan into a pickup.

The interior needs finishing and there are a few other spots that may need some work, but other than that, this strange El Camino-inspired Caprice (El Caprice-o?) is pretty much complete. Oddly, the builder has decided to include rear passenger seats in this Chevrolet Caprice-based pickup truck conversion. The rear seats are essentially sitting in the bed of the truck and are preventing the cabin from being completely closed off with a rear wall and window.

If this project was ours, we’d probably remove the rear seats and build some sort of partition between the cabin and the bed. It looks as though the rear passengers’ heads would be sticking up above the roofline, anyways.

Over time, there have always been (mostly unfounded) rumors that General Motors was looking at bringing the El Camino back. The automaker came close to introducing a similar vehicle with the Pontiac G8 Sport Truck concept, which debuted at the 2008 New York International Auto Show, but GM’s eventual bankruptcy put the kibosh on the ute’s arrival. Some have turned to Australia for an answer, shipping the Holden Ute over to the U.S. and converting it to left-hand-drive, whereas others have gotten a bit more creative and built their own.

Corvette Racing Pulls Out Of 2020 24 Hours Of Le Mans

The Corvette C8.R will have to wait until 2021 to make its Le Mans debut.

General Motors has confirmed Corvette Racing will not participate in this year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The automaker decided to pull out of the race due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and inevitable scheduling clashes with the IMSA WeatherTech series it races in full-time.

Do you want your own sports car?  Visit our website to shops some sporty rides.

“Corvette Racing has a long history of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, so our decision to not participate in this historic race this year was not an easy one,” said Chevrolet‘s U.S. Vice President for Performance and Motorsports, Jim Campbell, in a prepared statement. “Several factors played into our decision, including current conditions and the rescheduled timing. We’re proud Corvette Racing has been invited to the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the past 20 years and regret that we won’t be participating this year. We hope we have the opportunity to race at Le Mans again.”

The 88th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was previously pushed back from its usual June date to September due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, the newly revised IMSA WeatherTech schedule includes a race at Laguna Seca on September 6th and another at Mid-Ohio on September 25th. The amount of preparation required for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with the logistics of shipping personnel and equipment from the U.S. to France, mean Corvette Racing cannot fit in a visit to Le Mans in the same month.

CORE Autosport, which runs the IMSA Porsche GT Team, also announced it would withdraw from Le Mans for a similar reason.

Tesla ranks last in customer response

Tesla, an automaker with a customer base that comes close to a cult following, nonetheless racks up the poorest industry response rate to social-media consumer reviews.

That’s according to Reputation.com’s Automotive Reputation Report. Tesla’s weak showing in handling Internet reviews seems ironic considering it relies heavily on online orders.

Yet Tesla’s spot in the cellar comes as no surprise to Ali Fawaz, general manager-worldwide automotive at Reputation.com, a company with a reputation-management platform that aggregates customer review feedback and monitors reviews.

Ali Fawaz (3).PNG“Tesla doesn’t use franchised dealers, who tend to take care of customers like a mom-and-pop store, and that includes responding to reviews, good and bad,” he tells Wards. “Tesla is all corporate. And (Tesla founder) Elon Musk has said he’s not a big fan of social media.” (Ali Fawaz, above)

The electric-vehicle maker responded to only 2% of negative reviews, according to the Reputation.com study. (Tesla apparently means never having to say you’re sorry.)

Businesses should respond to both good and bad reviews, especially the latter, to keep negativity from escalating or lingering, Fawaz says. “Customers learn from other customers.”

In the event of a bad review, a dealership should “acknowledge the situation, apologize if necessary, show concern and try to rectify it by taking the conversation offline,” he advises. “Avoid getting into the weeds.”

A response to a positive review may require no more than a thank-you, he says. “Customers who leave positive reviews are your advocates.”

Paradoxically, negative reviews ultimately may help a dealership inasmuch as they can reveal operational deficiencies that aren’t readily apparent to management.

Customer reviews are very important to all of us at Ron Westphal Chevrolet.  Our reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, but we have had some negative online reviews.  But, in several instances it did bring to light issues that could be improved upon.  We appreciate all the comments we receive about our dealership, both the good and the bad.

After it started taking pre-orders in the middle of last month, General Motors is now officially launching the all-new three-row Chevrolet Blazer in China. The launch event was held at the SAIC-GM joint venture manufacturing facility in Shanghai, specifically at the Jinqiao plant, where the newest member of the Chevrolet crossover family for the Chinese market is manufactured.

With the arrival of the seven-passenger Chevrolet Blazer, the Bow Tie brand’s utility vehicle range expands for the first time into the D-segment in China, the new model being positioned above the Tracker, Trailblazer and Equinox as the flagship crossover in the country. The new variant of the Blazer will not only be able to satisfy the growing demand for utility vehicles, but will also drive the renewal of Chevrolet’s image in the world’s largest market.

“The Blazer midsize SUV is taking Chevrolet into one of the market’s fastest-growing segments,” said General Director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM, Scott Lawson, in a press release. “It will fulfill the diverse needs and preferences of local consumers through its youthful and sporty styling, fashionable interior and advanced technology,” he finished.

ron westphal chevy blog The three-row Blazer range will consist of five variants covering base, Redline and RS trim levels. Each one includes distinctive design cues that seek to attract various customer profiles, starting with the traditional styling of the base trim, the darkened appearance of the Redline, and the more aggressive look of the range-topping RS.

Meanwhile, the cabin reaffirms its sporty character with a distinctive design inspired by that of the Chevrolet Camaro, accompanied by a 10-inch “floating” center display and an 8-inch digital driver instrument panel. All versions include a highly modular 2+3+2 seating configuration, a total of 37 storage spaces and up to 69.6 cubic feet of cargo room.

835 hp Camaro goes to auction

2019-Yenko-Camaro-Auction-002-720x404New Jersey-based tuner Specialty Vehicle Engineering has generated quite a bit of press for itself with its modern-day Yenko Camaro tribute vehicles. While not nearly as desirable as an actual Yenko, these cars are still very desirable, packing huge amounts of power and featuring trademark Yenko branding.

Don’t need 835 horsepower?  Take a look at a brand new Chevrolet Camaro at Ron Westphal Chevrolet.2019-Yenko-Camaro-Auction-001-720x340

One of these rare modern-day Yenkos will soon head to auction at Mecum’s Indianapolis 2020 sale. The car is a 2019 model-year example with the Stage 1 performance package and is packing a supercharged LT1 V8 engine good for a whopping 835 horsepower. Helping to push the LT1 to those heights is a large blower, forged steel crankshaft, forged pistons, CNC ported LT4 cylinder heads, larger injectors and a laundry list of other modifications. Somewhat unexpectedly, this car was delivered with the optional 10-speed automatic transmission that is available with the Camaro SS, rather than the standard six-speed manual.

Mecum’s Indianapolis auction is scheduled for the week of June 23rd to 28th, but with the coronavirus pandemic canceling many major gatherings and events, it’s not clear if the auction will go forth. In the meantime, check out the lot listing for this modern-day muscle car at this link.

Still young at 85 – The 2021 Suburban

The 2021 Suburban

The Chevy Suburban has a long and storied past. It has been in continuous production since it was first introduced in 1935, giving it the distinction of being the longest-running car model in history. The Suburban made the transition from a station wagon to an SUV in the 1970s with its seventh generation, which made it among the first modern SUVs on the market. Since then, the Chevy Suburban has maintained its iconic position at the top of Chevrolet’s SUV lineup. Now, eighty-five years later, the introduction of the 2021 Chevy Suburban marks the beginning of the twelfth generation of the vehicle.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2020, so we do not yet have all the details. This is particularly true when it comes to trim levels and pricing. However, Chevrolet has been extremely open about the many improvements that it has made to the 2021 Chevy Suburban, giving us a very good idea of what the new vehicle will look like.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban has been completely redesigned from the ground up on an all-new platform. By extending the wheelbase by over four inches, Chevrolet has been able to increase the legroom of both the second and third rows by over two inches without decreasing cargo space. In fact, because the floor of the cargo area was lowered slightly, the cargo space of the 2021 Suburban with all of its seats in place actually increased slightly from 39.3 cu.ft. to 41.5 cu.ft. And because the 2021 Chevy Suburban is overall larger, cargo space with both rows of seats folded is now an absolutely incredible 144.7 cu.ft.––nearly 20% more than in the 2020 Suburban.

The reason Chevrolet was able to lower the cargo floor on the new 2021 Suburban was because it introduced a brand new independent rear suspension. This is a first for the Suburban, which has riding on a solid rear axle for the past eighty-five years. However, in addition to enabling a larger cargo area, the independent suspension will make for a massive increase in both ride quality and general controllability of the vehicle on uneven surfaces. And this already more effective suspension can be further improved on the higher trims of the 2021 Chevy Suburban by selecting the optional magnetic ride control, which can quickly adjust the damping rates of the shock absorbers on the fly to match the road conditions.

Finally, on the top Z71 and High Country trims of the 2021 Chevy Suburban, there will also be an optional air ride suspension system that can adjust ride height by up to four inches. This system will engage automatically at higher speeds to lower the ride height and improve aerodynamics. But it can also be employed manually, either to lower the vehicle by two inches when stopped to make access easier or to raise the vehicle by up to two inches for improved ground clearance while negotiating difficult terrain.

New Diesel Option

The 2021 Chevy Suburban will continue to offer the same two engines as on the 2020 Suburban. These consist of a base 5.3L V8 that generates 355 hp and 383 lb ft of torque, and a larger 6.2L V8 that produces 420 hp and 460 lb ft of torque. Both of these engines are good choices for the Suburban, with even the base 5.3L giving the nearly three-ton vehicle a better power to weight ratio than many much smaller SUVs.

However, for the 2021 Chevy Suburban there will be the new option of a 3.0L turbocharged diesel. This engine will be available on nearly every trim and will produce the same 460 lb ft of torque as the 6.2L V8 option. However, being a diesel, it will offer a much better fuel economy than the gasoline engines. The addition of the turbo-diesel will also make the 2021 Chevy Suburban the only vehicle in its class available in the United States with a diesel option.

No matter which of the three engine options is chosen, the 2021 Chevy Suburban will come with a ten-speed automatic transmission. This is a significant step up from the six-speed automatic in the 2020 Suburban. However, in a perhaps somewhat controversial move, the 2021 Suburban will lose the column-mounted shift lever and replace it with a series of buttons on the dashboard similar to what was used on the 2018 GMC Terrain.

A Digital Suburban

The infotainment system on the 2021 Chevy Suburban has also been entirely redesigned and now offers up to five separate displays. These include the standard 10” color touchscreen in the center console (the largest in its segment), an optional 15” Head Up Display (a smaller HUD will be standard on higher trims), and finally two optional 12.6” displays for passengers in the rear seats.

Although the 15” HUD is perhaps the most interesting of these displays, unfortunately, few details are currently available. But there are some interesting details available about the rear screens. Affixed to the backs of the front seats, these screens are fully independent. However, they are able to share content, both with each other, with other electronic devices, and with the central console screen. This will enable passengers in the rear seat to act as “navigators,” sending points of interest to the driver.

Overall, the 2021 Chevy Suburban will offer five times the processing power of the 2020 Suburban and will be ready to accommodate future technologies through over the air updates. The system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it includes both Bluetooth as well as USB ports for connectivity. Finally, it will, of course, offer Chevrolet’s standard 4G LTE wireless hotspot. With this amount of connectivity and data in the 2021 Suburban, Chevrolet has also been mindful of the for cybersecurity and has incorporated industry-leading protection to secure the system.

Numerous Distinctive Trims

In order to offer more variety, the 2021 Chevy Suburban will be available in no fewer than six different trims (the 2020 Suburban only offered three). These will begin with the standard LS and LT trims, but will also include the RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country trims, each of which will have its own distinct flavor.

2021 suburban interiorThe RST is a sport trim, with unique black exterior highlights, trim-specific seats with contrasting color stitching, and 22” aluminum wheels. Outside of its sport upgrades, it will generally follow the features of the LS trim.

The Z71 trim is off-road oriented. On top of a generally more rugged appearance and previously mentioned air ride suspension, it will incorporate valuable off-road features such as a higher approach angle, a two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, and distinctive red tow hooks.

The Premier trim focuses on equipment and technology. It will include safety features such as blindspot and lane departure warnings, as well as comforts such as built-in navigation, a Bose ten-speaker audio system, a 12-way power driver and passenger seats, a heated steering wheel, and power releases for the back seats.

Finally, the High Country trim will represent the best the 2021 Suburban has to offer. In addition to the full range of standard and optional features, it will stand out both externally and internally with a trim-specific grille, badging, seat embroidery, and color options as well as 22” wheels with chrome inserts.

No matter which trim and options you chose, the 2021 Chevy Suburban will remain the largest and most capable SUV available, representing the start of another unforgettable chapter in the eighty-five year Suburban saga.
