General Motors is dropping wireless smartphone charging from some new SUVs because of the global microchip shortage. It’s the latest feature to get the ax at the company due to the low supply of semiconductors. GM has already pulled HD radio from some models and auto start-stop and a fuel management module that made pickup trucks slightly cleaner and more efficient.

Certain trims of the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and the 2021 GMC Yukon, made after July 12th will no longer include a wireless charging pad, as was first reported by the GM Authority blog. But GM tells The Verge that certain 2022 Buick Enclaves, Chevy Traverses, and Cadillac XT5s and XT6s made after August 2nd are also affected.
Buyers of these vehicles will get a $75 credit instead of the wireless charging option. (GM is offering a similar $50 credit for vehicles that are missing the HD radio feature.) The company is expected to make these vehicles without wireless charging pads through the rest of the respective model years.
“Our supply chain organization continues to make strides working with our supply base to mitigate the near-term impacts of the semiconductor situation,” the company said in a statement to The Verge. “GM continues to leverage every available semiconductor to build and ship our most popular and in-demand products, including our highly profitable full-size trucks and SUVs for our customers. However, the semiconductor situation continues to remain fluid globally.”
Thanks for reading about the semiconductor situation.
With inventory being tight these days you may want to consider owning a GM Certified pre-owned used vehicle. You may get a better selection and save some money to boot!

In fact, GM is so confident in the certification process they include a GM extended warranty with every GM Certified pre-owned used vehicle.

1. Bernard Cigrand, a small-town Wisconsin teacher, originated the idea for an annual flag day, to be celebrated across the country every June 14, in 1885. That year, he led his school in the first formal observance of the holiday. Cigrand, who later changed careers and practiced dentistry in Illinois, continued to promote his concept and advocate respect for the flag throughout his life.
Ron Westphal Chevrolet is proud to fly the American flag EVERY DAY!
2. It is widely believed that Betsy Ross, who assisted the Revolutionary War effort by repairing uniforms and sewing tents, made and helped design the first American flag. However, there is no historical evidence that she contributed to Old Glory’s creation. It was not until her grandson William Canby held an 1870 press conference to recount the story that the American public learned of her possible role.
3. The lyrics of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” America’s national anthem since 1931, are taken from a patriotic poem written by Francis Scott Key after he witnessed the Battle of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. His words were set to the tune of “To Anacreon in Heaven,” a popular British drinking song.
4. In the 1950s, when it seemed certain that Alaska would be admitted to the Union, designers began retooling the American flag to add a 49th star to the existing 48. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Ohio student named Bob Heft borrowed his mother’s sewing machine, disassembled his family’s 48-star flag and stitched on 50 stars in a proportional pattern. He handed in his creation to his history teacher for a class project, explaining that he expected Hawaii would soon achieve statehood as well.
Heft also sent the flag to his congressman, Walter Moeller, who presented it to President Eisenhower after both new states joined the Union. Eisenhower selected Heft’s design, and on July 4, 1960, the president and the high school student stood together as the 50-star flag was raised for the first time. Heft’s teacher promptly changed his grade from a B- to an A.
5. Unlike setting an intact flag on fire, flying one upside-down is not always intended as an act of protest. According to the Flag Code, it can also be an official distress signal.
6. The Flag Code stipulates that the Stars and Stripes should not be used as apparel, bedding or drapery.
7. The practice of draping coffins in the American flag is not reserved for military veterans and government officials. On the contrary, any burial may incorporate this tradition.
8. Etiquette calls for American flags to be illuminated by sunlight or another light source while on display.9. During the Vietnam War era, some demonstrators burned American flags as an act of protest. The Flag Protection Act of 1968 was enacted in response, making it illegal to burn or otherwise deface the Stars and Stripes. In two landmark decisions 20 years later, the Supreme Court ruled that the government couldn’t curb individuals’ First Amendment rights by prohibiting desecration of the U.S. flag. Respectful burning of damaged flags according to established protocol has always been acceptable.
10. When flags are taken down from their poles, care must be taken to keep them from touching the ground. In fact, the American flag should always be kept aloft, meaning that rugs and carpets featuring the Stars and Stripes are barred by the Flag Code.
11. When the flags of cities, states, localities or groups are flown on the same staff as the American flag, Old Glory should always be at the peak. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they should be of equivalent size and flown from separate staffs of the same height.
12. The Flag Code strictly prohibits adding an insignia, drawing or other markings to the Stars and Stripes. Some American politicians have been known to defy this regulation by signing copies of the U.S. flag for their supporters.
13. Ever wondered how to correctly fold an American flag? First, enlist a partner and stand facing each other, each holding both corners of one of the rectangle’s shorter sides. Working together, lift the half of the flag that usually hangs on the bottom over the half that contains the blue field of stars. Next, fold the flag lengthwise a second time so that the stars are visible on the outside. Make a triangular fold at the striped end, bringing one corner up to meet the top edge. Continue to fold the flag in this manner until only a triangle of star-studded blue can be seen.

General Motors will close the Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan where the Chevy Camaro is built until late June, a source revealed to local news outlet WLNS 6 last week.
If you have any questions about the GM funneling chips, the chip shortage or inventory availability–please contact our Customer Care Team at 630-898-9630. Or visit us online at https://www.WestphalChevy.com.
The assembly plant closed on May 10th due to a semiconductor chip shortage and will remain closed until at least June 28th. The Grand River Assembly plant builds the Chevy Camaro, as well as the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans.
GM shut down the Lansing Grand River plant at the beginning of March due to the chip shortage, with the facility remaining offline for the rest of March and all of April. Production returned for a brief period between May 3rd and May 10th, but the facility has now gone back offline amid another shortage of chips.
In addition to the Lansing facility, GM has also temporarily idled its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas and CAMI Assembly plant in Ontario until late July. The Fairfax facility produces the Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4 crossover, while the CAMI plant builds the Chevy Equinox. As of May 3rd, GM had missed out on the production of roughly 79,600 vehicles in North America over the chip shortage, including 17,000 examples of the Chevy Equinox and a combined 24,100 examples of the Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4.
GM is funneling the majority of the chips it has access to toward its various pickup truck and SUV plants, as these vehicles are the bread-and-butter of its business. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are built at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana and GM Silao Assembly plant in Mexico, while the heavy-duty Silverado HD and Sierra HD are produced at Flint Assembly in Michigan. The automaker’s line of full-size SUVs, such as the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon, are built at Arlington Assembly in Texas.
Many experts predict the semiconductor shortage will persist to some degree throughout the year and could extend into early 2022. A variety of factors have led to the shortage, including increased demand and production setbacks related to factory fires and the COVID-19 pandemic.

GM SUVs Recalled The seat belts may have been routed improperly during the production process.
The problem: in affected GM SUVs, one or both of the third-row outboard seatbelts may have been inadvertently entrapped in or misrouted behind the outboard seat-folding mechanism. A seat belt in this condition may be damaged by the seat folding mechanism. This problem can be traced back the installation of the third-row seat at the factory.
The hazards: a damaged seat belt can break during a crash. This would increase the risk of injury to the occupant.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Ron Westphal Chevrolet Service Department at 1-630-898-9630.
Owners should: owners of affected GM SUVs will be contacted by the automaker and instructed them to make an appointment with their dealer. Those owners who may be unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to view any open recalls or other actions that may be active on their vehicle.
General Motors has issued another tire recall for select Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC models that may have been delivered with defective tires.
The problem: vehicles involved in this tire recall campaign were delivered with Continental brand tires that were overcured during the manufacturing process.
The hazards: Continental claims that overcured tires “may experience a carcass break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss.” A tire failure or sudden loss of air pressure could increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: dealers will inspect affected Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles and replace tires that have DOT number and production mold number combinations that reflect the defective units identified by Continental.
Questions? Call our Service Department at 630-898-9630.
Next steps: GM will notify owners of affected Chevy, Cadillac, Buick and GMC vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. If owners are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this tire recall, they can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it.
This recall is an expansion of a related recall that was issued in November of last year for certain GM brand vehicles that were also delivered with overcured Continental brand tires. The initial recall involved 11,728 tires and 7,516 GM vehicles. It’s not yet clear how many tires and vehicles this expanded recall includes.

Will your vehicle order get built due the the chip shortage? The auto industry is grappling with a worldwide shortage in microchips at the moment, curtailing production as microchip supplies dwindle. Now, it’s estimated that nearly 60,000 GM vehicles have been cut from the North American production schedule as a result of the shortage.
At Ron Westphal Chevrolet, we have a large selection on new and pre-owned vehicles. If you have questions about inventory or ordering, please call our Customer Care team at 1-630-898-9630.
According to global automotive forecasting company AutoForecast Solutions, the chip shortage has resulted in production losses approximating some 56,600 GM vehicles, with at least six North American GM production facilities affected.
These include plants in Michigan, Kansas, Kentucky, Mexico, and Canada. The heaviest impacted facility is San Luis Potosi in Mexico, where an estimated 19,500 GM vehicles were reported to have been cut due to the chip shortage. The GM facility in Fairfax, Kansas has reportedly cut 14,800 units from the schedule, while the facility in Ingersoll, Ontario has cut a further 10,900 units.
“Semiconductor supply for the global auto industry remains fluid,” GM said in a statement earlier in February. “Our supply chain organization is working closely with our supply base to find solutions for our supplier’s semiconductor requirements and to mitigate impacts on GM.”
In a statement last week, GM CEO Mary Barra said that the chip shortage would not affect production of GM’s highly profitable full-size SUV and pickup models.
