Chevy Corvette Wins Best Resale Value

The Chevy Corvette Stingray has won the 2022 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Award in the Sports Car category.

Kelley Blue Book’s Best Resale Value Awards are an annual recognition of the automakers and vehicle models that retain the highest percentage of their original value on the used market. The Chevy Corvette took top honors in the sports car category this year and was also listed as the number one model for resale value overall, beating out popular models like the Ford F-Series, Toyota 4Runner and Tesla Model X. The best brand for resale value was Toyota, while the best luxury brand was the Japanese automaker’s luxury arm Lexus.

According to Kelley Blue Book, much of a vehicle’s resale value is based on supply and demand, as well as “current and projected future market conditions.” Some vehicles, however, like the Chevy Corvette, also retain a high percentage of their original value as they are not often discounted from new and generate high levels of consumer interest. In other words, shoppers in the market for a Chevy Corvette may be willing to pay a higher amount for a used model if they are unable to locate a new one with any kind of discounted price, and are usually highly motivated to make the purchase.

The publication says an average 2022 model-year vehicle will only retain about 43 percent of its original value after a five-year ownership period, which means a vehicle that sells for $45,000 new today will only be worth about $19,350 five years down the road. Vehicles included in this list of the top ten best vehicles for resale value, by comparison, will retain around 56 percent of their original price on the used market.

Just another prototype caught in the wild…mid engine corvette?

For as much as Chevy is keeping quiet about the mid-engined C8 Corvette to the public, it’s hard to deny the car is coming when we’ve spotted countless test mules out on the road. The automaker even gave dealers a brief peek of the car last month. This video is further proof development is ongoing, though we’re uncertain when plans to reveal it.

Research the Chevrolet Corvette

When Chevy gave dealers a peek, the user who dished all the details about what little he saw. He noted the Lotus-like hood and ZR1-like front bumper cover. That’s all he really said because that’s all he saw. From the photos and videos we’ve seen, the front is distinctly Corvette, while the rear end is wide – to fit the engine, naturally.

Now, what engine will lurk back there is up for debate. Rumors suggest a biturbo 4.2-liter V8 being the main powertrain, which is different from the same engine planned for the CT6 V-Sport that produces 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque. In the mid-engined Corvette, the 4.2-liter mill should produce 650 hp. There are also rumors of a biturbo 5.5-liter with a maximum horsepower of 850 hp.

Rumors of a mid-engined Corvette are not new. Some go back decades with magazines hinting that we’d see one in just a few years. Twenty years later, and we’re still waiting, but it finally feels we’ll get the long-awaited mid-engined Corvette.

The next-generation Corvette is destined to do battle with exotic sports cars like McLarens, but first…McDonalds!

What is almost certainly a camouflaged prototype of the long rumored mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette was spotted pulling into the drive-through of a Michigan Mickey D’s, with two more and a current convertible Corvette parked in the lot nearby.

Despite the heavy cladding and dazzling wrap, the shape of the front of the vehicle exhibits the distinct style of a Corvette, while its long rear deck is a clear indication that its motor is in the middle.

Chevrolet hasn’t even yet acknowledged that it is working on such a vehicle, so details are scarce. Speculation is that it will feature a lightweight chassis, however, and may reintroduce an overhead cam engine to the Corvette lineup, along with a hybrid powertrain.

As for when we’ll know for sure, with the prototypes looking nearly complete, a debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January is looking likely, and sales should follow in 2019.

Corvette Factory Closing to Visitors Until Late 2018

Can’t have the tourists taking any Snapchats with the mid-engined C8.

If “Take a tour of the Chevy Corvette factory in Bowling Green” is one of the items on your summertime bucket list this year, you might want to fast-track those plans for that trip down Kentucky way. Starting this June, General Motors will be closing the Corvette factory to the public for a year and a half.

The National Corvette Museum’s Katie Frassinelli told the Bowling Green Daily News the tours are being shut down in order to give the facility a chance to conduct extensive changes to the factory.

The Bowling Green, KY factory will offer its final tours on Friday, June 16th.

While General Motors officials reportedly refused to discuss future plans during an April 28th conversation at the Corvette Museum, even a drunken monkey would be liable to draw a connection between the planned plant closure and the forthcoming mid-engined C8-generation Corvette. That future Chevy has been spied repeatedly over the last year, clad in thick layers of camouflage that still can’t disguise the new model’s engine layout.

Chevrolet muscle car event set for Bowling Green

Registration and spectator tickets are now available for America’s definitive showcase of customized cars as part of the 2017 Chevrolet Performance CAR CRAFT Summer Nationals, Presented by Holley/MSD, July 21-23 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky.
