Owners Help Chevrolet Own Top Spot in Most-Seen Auto Ads

Buick moves up the ranking from fifth to second place with a commercial showcasing a multitude of models including the Cascada, Envision, Encore, Enclave and Regal GS – what the announcer calls “one of the freshest lineups in the industry.”

Chevrolet Own Top Spot in Most-Seen Auto AdsReal Chevrolet owners help the General Motors brand capture first place in iSpot.tv’s latest ranking of the most-viewed automotive commercials – the ads that have racked up the highest number of impressions across national broadcast and cable TV airings.

At No.1 for the week of July 9, Chevy owners engage in a focus-group conversation about what’s most important when it comes to their cars. As a garage door opens to reveal their own vehicles, the spokesman tells them Chevrolet has been awarded J.D. Power dependability awards across its lineup for three years in a row.

Buick moves up the ranking from fifth to second place with a commercial showcasing a multitude of models including the Cascada, Envision, Encore, Enclave and Regal GS – what the announcer calls “one of the freshest lineups in the industry.”

Summer is in the air in the third- and fourth-place spots. At No.3, Jeep promotes the “Summer of Jeep” event in a 15-second spot letting people know customers for a limited time can get integrated Apple Music free for six months with the purchase of select vehicles. Audi’s fourth-place ad also is 15 seconds, simply encouraging viewers to “pursue what drives you” and noting the automaker will cover the first month’s lease payment on select ’18 models.

It’s back to Chevrolet for the fifth-place commercial focusing on its line of Silverado 1500 models. During “Truck Month,” customers can get 18% of MSRP cash back on ’18 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT Texas Edition pickups.

The Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado 1500 are members of the same pickup truck family, the smaller Colorado a midsize and the Silverado a full-size. The Colorado appeals to people who prefer its SUV-like styling and interior, and smaller footprint. It’s not as traditional-looking as the Silverado, and that has piqued the interest of people who left the midsize truck segment to buy SUVs instead. When it comes to serving truck work duty, the larger Silverado is the more capable of the two: in crew cab form, it can tow a trailer that weighs 12,500 pounds (the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds), and can carry significantly more payload than the Colorado. They are both built on tough frames, and offer a comfortable ride, quiet interior, modern amenities in the cabin and impressive off-road chops.

Chevrolet Silverado Advantages

From the bigger cab to the available longer bed, the Silverado is larger overall, roomier and offers more space for gear. Styling is a modern take on traditional truck design, with some cues that serve as a tribute to Chevy’s storied truck history. It has higher towing and payload capacities than the Colorado, and offers more luxury: trim levels that include the High Country have rugged, leather-lined upscale looks that the Colorado can’t touch. The Silverado is also offered with a terrific 420-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 that makes the truck feel like a hot rod, and impressive off-road options.

Chevrolet Colorado Advantages

The Colorado is smaller, making it easier to park – and it can fit into garages that are too small to house a Silverado. While it can’t match the Silverado’s capability, the Colorado offers best-in-class towing and payload capacity, as well as an available diesel engine. The Silverado offers many off-road options and features, but it doesn’t have an off-road-tuned model like the ZR2. This truck uses special shocks, wider track, and lifted suspension that make the ZR2 capable of everything from desert-running to rock-crawling, without sacrificing on-road ride comfort.

Similarities

These trucks offer excellent capability in their respective classes and quiet, roomy interiors. Both trucks do a fine job of balancing work and play, and can be pleasant daily drivers. They have legitimate off-road prowess, and both have easy-to-use smartphone connectivity, easing phone and navigation use, and making it easier to safely text as you drive.

Final Recommendation

If you are debating which of these trucks should be parked in your driveway, the first thing you should do is decide how you want to use your pickup. If you don’t need to tow more than 7,700 pounds and don’t mind a smaller interior, the Colorado is a truck that will save you money, is easier to park and maneuver around town, and gets better fuel economy. However, if your towing and hauling needs are greater than what the Colorado can handle, the Silverado is a comfortable, capable truck that’s bigger and can give you more upscale trim models and options. Both are strong candidates worth considering.

2019 Chevrolet Blazer Preview

2019 Chevrolet Blazer 0 OEM.jpg

2019 Chevrolet Blazer

Manufacturer image

Competes with: Ford Edge, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Murano

Looks like: Chevy took the gloves off for a more dramatic shape that’s sharp-edged and Lexus-like, but with a big grille and unusual, low-set headlights similar to the redesigned 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Drivetrains: 193-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder or 305-hp, 3.6-liter V-6; nine-speed automatic transmission

Hits dealerships: Early 2019

For additional information about the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer preview please call our customer care team at 630-898-9630.

Another badge from the distant past comes back in the form of Chevrolet’s new 2019 Blazer, reviving a Chevrolet SUV staple that ran from the 1983 S10 Blazer through the nameplate’s demise in 2005 (and that’s to say nothing of the big K5 Blazer of even earlier heritage). But this in no retro-looking ride — it’s a break from the recent past in Chevy designs, with more “hey, look at me” style.

The new Blazer also seems to aim more at the country club than the country. It’s no body-on-frame Ford Bronco fighter, another badge from yesteryear making a comeback soon with promised off-road chops. The Blazer is, rather, more of a Ford Edge or Nissan Murano fighter.

It will fit between the Equinox compact SUV and the big three-row Traverse in the Chevy lineup, but the Blazer is more stylish and interesting than either sibling to attract new buyers. The trim levels will include a sportier, aggressive RS model and a top-level Premier with luxury trimmings.

Might there be a GMC Jimmy Denali version down the road, aimed at higher-end competitions from more premium brands? Chevrolet and GMC are both brands under GM, so we wouldn’t bet against it.

Exterior

The new Blazer’s design is energetic and sharp-elbowed in a good way; it should play well with the mom or dad who wants to be the cool parent. Styling is definitely more of a swoopy suburban cruiser than a truck — and in the sportier RS trim level, the Blazer has the meanest-looking Chevy nose short of a Camaro, with squinting LED daytime running lights and a blacked-out grille so big it could make Lexus’ spindle blush.

A pinched-waist side also includes a character line that sweeps nicely from the front wheel up into the back pillar, though it leads to one of those “floating roof” illusions, a design trend I thought was finally over. A panoramic moonroof is available.

In an unusual design flourish, the headlights sit low in the bumper, separate from the high daytime running lights, and should present a distinctive look at night. Hyundai just did the same with the redone 2019 Santa Fe even as Jeep switched to more conventional headlight positioning for the 2019 Cherokee. The Blazer’s tail is not so dramatic (and less of a departure from other Chevy designs), but that also describes most SUVs. It features LED taillights and an integrated rear spoiler.

Interior

The five-seat interior features a horizontal sweep to the dashboard and a standard 8-inch touchscreen that stands away from, but not above, the dash. Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 multimedia system also is standard, as is Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone integration plus 4G LTE Wi-Fi if you subscribe. Wireless charging and up to six USB ports are available.

For flexibility in managing people versus cargo room, the Blazer has an adjustable sliding rear seat. Maximum cargo capacity is 64.2 cubic feet with the second row folded. RS and Premier trim levels get a cargo management system with rails and a cargo fence. Another interesting detail: an electronic-locking glove box that can lock for security when the Blazer is in Valet mode.

Luxury options include a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats that can work automatically via remote start or the automatic climate control. Heated rear seats and a hands-free power liftgate also are available.

Under the Hood

The Blazer’s base engine is a 193-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder that puts out 188 pounds-feet of torque. Optional is a 305-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 that puts out 269 pounds-feet of torque. Both pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and have stop-start systems at idle.

All models offer selectable driving modes, and there are two flavors of all-wheel drive available. The RS and Premier trim levels get a more sophisticated, higher-performance twin-clutch AWD system. The Blazer can two up to 4,500 pounds with the V-6 and offers a hitch-view camera feature that helps in aligning the hitch with the trailer.

Safety

Chevy says the Blazer has a “suite of available active safety features.” That isn’t very detailed, but we take it to mean that the Blazer continues GM’s pattern of reserving the best safety and driver assistance for higher trim levels and option packages. In another example, GM’s announcement notes that adaptive cruise control is “available” on the upper RS and Premier trim levels. A rearview-mirror video camera will also will be offered.

Will the New Chevrolet Blazer Help Sustain General Motors’ Profit Boom?

General Motors (NYSE: GM) revealed an all-new crossover SUV last week. The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer is a “two-row” (five-passenger) midsize SUV that will slot in between the huge-selling Chevrolet Equinox and the big Chevy Traverse when it begins arriving at U.S. dealers early next year.

While a few GM fans grumbled about its name — the original Chevy Blazers were brawny truck-based SUVs; this one isn’t — GM shareholders should welcome the new family friendly Blazer: It’s the latest addition to what has been a very profitable line of products for GM.

For additional information on the all new Chevy Blazer, please contact our customer care team at 630-898-9630.

Big sales gains for GM’s new crossovers — so far

“Crossover SUV” is the industry’s term for an SUV built on a sedan-like unibody architecture. They’ve become wildly popular for good reasons: They offer most of the advantages of the traditional truck-based SUVs that were popular 15 years ago, but they’re lighter in weight, they drive more like sedans than trucks, and they have much better fuel economy.

To say that GM has been making hay on this trend is an understatement. There’s a truism in the auto industry: Vehicles generate the best sales and margins when they’re brand new. And when the new vehicle is in a hot-selling segment, sales (and profits) can be very significant.

Nearly all of GM’s crossovers are brand new or significantly refreshed since the beginning of 2016. Sales of the group were very strong in 2017, and they’ve continued to be strong so far this year.

Vehicle U.S. sales YTD through May Change vs. 2017
Buick Enclave 17,943 11.8%
Buick Encore 44,278 23.8%
Buick Envision 14,255 (19)%
Cadillac XT5 27,531 11.4%
Chevrolet Equinox 141,477 35.7%
Chevrolet Traverse 61,708 33.6%
Chevrolet Trax 37,173 19.7%
GMC Acadia 43,452 (9.7)%
GMC Terrain 53,463 45.4%
TOTAL 441,280 22.4%

Data source: Automotive News estimates.

With that said, here’s the key thing that investors need to know about the all-new Blazer: It’s an addition to the lineup, not a replacement for an outgoing model. I won’t get into all the technical details of the new Blazer here, but the thing to know is that in terms of both size and price, it’ll slot in between the Chevrolet Equinox and Traverse.

You’ll note that those are the two best-selling vehicles on that chart. The new Blazer will aim to push that total higher — capturing buyers who might find the Equinox to be a bit small, but who don’t need the seven-passenger capacity of the big Traverse.

If there’s a sweet spot to the crossover market, that might be it.

Starting Price: $57,485

2018 Lamborghini Huracán

Starting Price: $203,295

Above Average: Exotic car styling, tenacious tire adhesion, nosebleed acceleration

Below Average: Contortionist ingress/egress; hard, narrow seats; armored personnel carrier sightlines

Consensus: A supercar that comes close to defying the laws of physics

The origins of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s sports car enterprises are a little prosaic, dating to 1948 and the establishment of his tractor company, Lamborghini Trattori. Automobili Lamborghini was established 15 years later, with the introduction of the V12-powered 350 GTV. The mid-engine Miura propelled Lamborghini to sports car fame in 1966, notoriety that continues today. Now a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, Lamborghini’s Huracán is the latest Miura descendant, a low-volume, high-powered no-compromise supercar, whose max performance is even more max with the recent addition of the 631-hp Performante model, reducing 0-to-60 time to less than 2.5 seconds. All Lambos are expensive, with the Performante pricetag climbing well over $300,000. Now in its 65th year, the Corvette is an example of continuous technical and stylistic development that has made this all-American two-seater a world-class sports car. Power is abundant even in the base model, and the latest ZR1 is an exemplary combination of muscle, agility, and aerodynamic downforce. Already exceptional, the Corvette’s dynamic scorecard figures to make a major improvement when a new mid-engine generation makes its debut in 2019 as a 2020 model.

Chevrolet Corvette Advantages

Aggressive styling also yields aerodynamic benefits, quick on its feet in all trims, ZR1 supercar specs

Lamborghini Huracán Advantages

Drop-dead supercar good looks, mid-engine agility, serious power-to-weight, optional all-wheel drive, eminently collectible

Similarities

Both Lambo and Corvette offer plentiful power, both are true sports cars

Final Recommendation

It’s a little easier to acquire a Lamborghini than a Ferrari, but it can still entail a waiting period and the pricing limits ownership to the one-percent club. On the other hand, the Huracán delivers breathtaking performance and its rarity almost guarantees appreciation in value over the years. Compared to the Huracán, the Corvette is a bargain, delivering outstanding performance in all trims, for about a quarter of the Lamborghini’s price. Also, the latest ZR1 rates as a supercar in its own right.

Chevrolet dominates list of top family cars

2018 Chevrolet TraverseChevrolet vehicles dominate the list of top family cars for 2018 as ranked by Parents magazine and Edmunds.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey and Accord and Chevrolet Traverse and Malibu are four of the top 10 on the list.

Looking for a new or used Chevrolet?  Call us now at 630-898-9630 or visit us online anytime.

“We’re not playing favorites in terms of why there are two Hondas and two Chevrolets. The vehicle had to have a top safety score from NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to be considered,” said Brent Romans, senior analyst at Edmunds in Santa Monica, Calif. “That narrowed down the list.”

Refreshed design helped the Chevrolet Traverse trump the Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander, Romans said.

“The Traverse is also lighter than the previous model by a few hundred pounds for better gas mileage, handles nicer but still has plenty of room on the inside, and it’s very comfortable,” Romans said. “Both the Highlander and Explorer are older designs, so consumers are a bit tired of them, and maybe they’re a bit behind on technology. The Traverse is roomier than both those other models, too.”

The perfect off road truck

The perfect off road truck Chevrolet Colorado or Silverado

You finally have that new Chevy truck in your driveway just waiting to be driven off-road. You can picture yourself behind the wheel, exploring new sights and sounds in mother nature. The only trouble is your new truck is not exactly ready for the great outdoors just yet. All Chevy trucks are quite capable vehicles with an emphasis on general performance and road driving. If you are looking for a fantastic commuter or work truck right off the factory floor, Chevy has you covered. If you have a little bit extra to spend, you can even get something ready-made for off-road adventures in the form of the Colorado ZR2.

Call our Parts & Accessories Department at 630-898-9630 or visit us online.

However, to find the perfect off-road truck for your tastes, you might look at something different than what the manufacturer offers right out of the gate. A good off-road vehicle is something that has been designed for the personal experience. Depending on how you intend to use the truck and the off-road terrain you want to conquer, you may need a different setup to thrive.

Thankfully, Chevy trucks are highly adaptable to meet your personal tastes and needs. From small accessories to major upgrades, you can turn a Silverado or Colorado into the off-road vehicle of your dreams.

Planning Everything Out

The first step towards creating that perfect off-road truck is planning out what you need in the long run. If you have existing off-road experience, this is a good place to start since you already have an idea of the types of terrain you will encounter the most. If you are new to the off-roading scene, it is good to take some time to imagine yourself out in nature or do some research. What kind of trip do you see yourself embarking on?

All off-road and overland adventures will have a different set of challenges you need to be prepared for. A truck is a great platform to carry equipment and accessories to overcome these challenges. The more you can identify how you need to prepare, the more you can tailor the truck now for future trips.

Commonly, off-road trucks have a combination of emergency supplies, survival accessories, and performance upgrades to turn the truck into a terrain-conquering beast. The extent to which you modify your Chevy truck will depend on your needs and budget. It is important to set a realistic budget ahead of time, so you do not end up disappointed later on. This will also allow you to prioritize upgrades and purchases.

Survival Accessories

On the more affordable front of preparation, your truck will need to carry certain supplies and accessories to keep you safe and alive during long off-road or overland adventures. A truck naturally has a lot of cargo space to carry extra supplies and tools. The trick is knowing what you need to bring for any given trip.

The basics of any off-road adventure include an emergency kit and survival supplies such as food, water, a hand-operated or solar powered radio, lights, sleeping gear, etc. It is helpful to carry enough supplies for the number of people you intend to bring. For better organization, invest in some truck bed dividers or toolboxes to keep everything uncluttered and protected as you drive.

If you expect to tackle some tricky terrain, vehicular accessories like a winch or fog lights are a good idea. A truck bed rack, for example, will give you more cargo space and mounting points for additional accessories such as racks and fuel canisters. You may want to invest in a good shovel or traction pad to get yourself out of a sticky situation if necessary.

Vehicle Modifications

If you are not satisfied with your Chevy truck’s existing setup from the manufacturer, there are a few more pricey upgrades to consider to make it more off-road worthy. These upgrades will make the truck more capable when tackling steeper terrain grades, loose earth, and bad weather conditions.

A good lift kit is the first place to invest some money. This type of kit lifts the suspension of the truck by several inches. In turn, you gain greater ground clearance to drive over common obstacles like rocks and debris you are likely to encounter on a trail. This type of kit can protect the undercarriage and bumpers of the truck while giving it more room to maneuver at the same time.

Body plating is another worthwhile investment to maximize the protection of your truck’s exterior. This type of protection commonly comes in the form of an undercarriage plate, reinforced front bumper, and roll bars in the bed of the truck. If you happen to run into something like a rock or a tree, these protective measures will take the abuse of the foreign object instead of the truck exterior paneling.

Turning Dreams Into A Reality

Ultimately, turning a Chevy truck into the perfect off-road vehicle is a matter of time, patience, planning, and persistence. Once you know what kind of modifications you want to make and have a budget, the next step is to get to work.

If you have some automotive experience, this can be a great DIY project. Buy the accessories, equipment, and parts you want to add to your truck and take a few weekends to make the changes yourself. Get some friends and family members in on the action to speed up the process as well.

If you do not have experience working on your own vehicles, it is better to take your truck to a professional to get the work done right. Complicated upgrades like lift kits require a certain level of experience and expertise to be done correctly. Otherwise, you risk doing more harm and damage to the truck or yourself at some point in the future.

Once everything is said and done, you will have a new Chevy truck that is ready to carry you to new experiences and adventures.

2020 Chevy Blazer

Rumors of the Blazer’s return after a 13-year spell on the sidelines have all been confirmed by a heavily camouflaged SUV doing test runs in the last few months. Unless Chevy’s got a surprise up its sleeve, this prototype is the new Blazer.

Looking for a new Crossover?  Call our Customer Care Team at 630-898-9630.  Or, visit us online 24/7.

There are still plenty of question marks surrounding the returning nameplate. We’re no closer to answering a lot of them, but this new set of spy shots is giving us a lot to take note of. Arguably the most revealing sections of the dressed up Blazer are the headlight fixtures. Unlike past spy photos that covered almost the entire body of the SUV, the latest ones show the headlights in all their glory. By the looks of it, we can now clearly see a sliver of LED lights arranged neatly horizontally. I don’t think that these lights will serve as the main headlamps of the Blazer. History — and recent trends — suggests that these could be the daytime running lights of the new SUV. Just below them, we can see a pair of circular fog lamps and, while a little obscured by the wraps, the SUV’s turn signal indicators could be sitting just below the lamps.

The other noticeable element is the set of wheels. I can’t say with any certainty what size those wheels are, but they look big enough — maybe 20s? — for me to think that the model that’s being tested is a high-end trim level of the Blazer. It might even the range-topping version considering that it also looks to have a roof-mounted spoiler at the back. Previous spy shots of the Blazer also hinted at a front grille that’s sporting a number of horizontal bars. It’s not that different from the grille on the smaller Traverse, though I do wonder if Chevy’s going to use a similar two-tier grille design with the Chevrolet logo connecting the two. The bigger Equinox has it, too, so it’s likely that we’re going to see the same treatment on the Blazer.

The side profile of the test vehicle also gives us an idea of how long the Blazer is.

The side profile of the test vehicle also gives us an idea of how long the Blazer is. It’s long. The hood extends longer than we expected and the body stretches quite a bit, too. Given that, the Blazer should be big enough to accommodate seven people in the cabin comfortably.

2020 Chevy Blazer Interior

  • Chrome Trim Could Be Standard
  • Could Lack Common Technology
  • Infotainment Could Be Knob-Controlled
  • Could Seat Seven Up To Seven People

Speaking of the cabin, the new spy shots don’t have any new photos of the interior. For that, we’ll have to look back at the previous batch, which had one shot of the cabin that, not surprisingly, was also heavily covered. About the only thing we could make out of that photo was the steering wheel, which had the usual array of control buttons that most steering wheels have these days. A nice nod also goes to what appears to be chrome trim on the steering wheel. I’m guessing that’s going to be a common theme on the exterior and interior of the Blazer. The instrument cluster can also be seen, provided you squint your eyes a little. It doesn’t look like it’s going to venture into the world of those new-age, all digital clusters because I can see traditional circular displays wrapped in, you guessed it, chrome. The center console is heavily covered, too. There’s nothing much to see there other than what looks to be a pair of knobs at the bottom.

Power numbers are a mystery, though considering the fact that the Blazer could be slotted between the Traverse and the Equinox, we’re looking at an output of around 280 horsepower

Engine options for the new Blazer should include a handful of options. The entry-level model, for example, could receive a 2.5-liter four-cylinder while upper-tier trim levels could be in line to get Chevy’s more powerful 3.6-liter V-6 mill. Power numbers are a mystery, though considering the fact that the Blazer could be slotted between the Traverse and the Equinox, we’re looking at an output of around 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque for the entry-level version and around 330 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque for the bigger V-6-powered model.

At this point, there’s too little data to actually make a good estimate on pricing, but there are two directions Chevy could go with this. First, the Blazer could be positioned between the Equinox and the Traverse. This is a move that would have Chevy Relying on the Blazer name for sales as it’s rather hard to fit another model between the $23,580 Equinox and the $29,930 Traverse. Even if it fits in size, that’s still just $6000 to play around with, which would – logically – have the Blazer starting out at around $26,800. The more likely option is that it will be slotted, at least pricing-wise, between the Traverse and the Tahoe, which gives some more wiggle room with the Tahoe price at more just over $17,000 higher than the model directly below it. Placing it between these two models would have the Blazer carrying a price tag somewhere in the area of $38,000 or so which makes sense as the Blazer name itself will likely draw some sales nostalgia. For now, it’s all speculation, but you can expect the latter scenario to be the most likely at this point.

2020 Chevy Blazer Competition

Ford Explorer

Assuming the new Blazer will actually slot between the Traverse and the Tahoe, it will likely compete head-on with the Ford Explorer. When you consider the fact that the Blazer will be a more upscale version of the Traverse – offering a more luxurious package due to higher pricing – the Explorer makes sense. Add in the fact that it is also available with a 3.5-liter V-6 and permanent AWD system and it’s right up the Blazer’s alley. Add on the fact that the Explorer starts out around $32,000 and easily jumps beyond the $41,000 mark in Limited trim, and it’s a sure model to cross-shop. Of course, one could argue that the Blazer might start cannibalizing Traverse sales since the Traverse technically competes with the Explorer too, but we’ll have to see what happens. On the note, the current Explorer has been on the market since 2011, so it’s about time for a generational shift. If that doesn’t happen before the Blazer hits the market, the Blazer will likely be the most bet and offer better technology.

If Chevrolet’s development and testing schedule for the Blazer goes on without any hitches, it’s safe to assume that we could see the SUV in full production form sometime this year. The most likely scenario would be the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, though Chevrolet could hold off for a few months and opt to launch the model at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2019 instead. Lord knows that event needs a few headline acts these days.
