2019 Chevrolet Camaro Pricing Confirmed, Starts From $26,495

2019 Chevrolet Camaro Pricing picture

2019 Chevrolet Camaro Pricing – The base 1LT and V6 are cheaper than last year’s models.

The facelifted 2019 Chevrolet Camaro has certainly been controversial thanks to its polarizing styling. We also recently learned that some trims are less efficient than the outgoing model. It’s not all bad news, however, because the 2019 Camaro will be cheaper than last year’s model.

Looking for a fantastic value on a fantastic sports car?  Call our Customer Care Team at 630-898-9630 or visit our website to select your dream car.

Autoblog has discovered the online configurator for the updated Camaro has gone live. There are no photos of all the different options yet, but the pricing is plain to see. At the bottom of the range, the turbocharged four-cylinder 2019 Chevrolet Camaro 1LT has an MSRP of $26,495, including the $995 destination. That makes it $405 cheaper than last year’s base model, the Camaro 1LS.

Opting for the Convertible version adds another $6,000, but it’s still $405 less than the 2018 Camaro Convertible 1LS. Oddly, the 1LS trim is still listed, but the configurator says “See dealer for pricing” when selecting this option. Autoblog speculates the 1LS could be a special-order trim for fleets since there’s only one wheel design available and it can’t be equipped with an automatic.

New to this year’s range is the 2019 Camaro Turbo 1LE, which isn’t listed in the configurator but Chevrolet has announced it starts at $30,995. The 2019 Camaro V6 also now starts at $27,990, which is $405 less than the 2018 version. Adding the 1LE package adds $4,500 to the price, and selecting a convertible adds $6,000.

Chevy Silverado versus Nissan Titan

Nissan Titan versus Silverado
Nissan Titan
Chevy Silverado versus Nissan Titan
Chevy Silverado

At first glance, it might appear as though the 2018 Chevy Silverado vs. 2018 Nissan Titan have much in common. Unfortunately, critics and testers of these newer vehicles found out otherwise. The Titan attempts to strike a balance between luxury and heavy-duty, however, it misses the mark. Critics gave the Titan an overall rating of 2.5 stars which falls way below the 4.5 Silverado rating.

Critics consider the body of the Titan to be too bulky. It seems Nissan engineers were trying too hard to make it look “beefy.” So, even though it might appear powerful, performance levels are lacking and inferior, which might leave the customer feeling as though they were duped by a bait and switch.

Compared to the Silverado’s engines, the Titan’s Cummins V-8 diesel operates crudely. Certainly, the 2018 Nissan Titan has a few selling points with the cargo bed options and comfortable seating. But while still lacking in powertrain, towing capability and infotainment, a comfortable cabin barely makes up for it.

That’s what makes the 2018 Chevy Silverado a better choice for a pickup truck. The towing capacity is still unmatched by its competitors, and critics prefer the Duramax diesel engine combined with its Allison transmission to the Cummins V-8.

Put to the test, the 2018 Silverado seems to win out over the Nissan Titan on every count. Some ratings for the Nissan Titan are 2-3 stars less, and the safety and crash test ratings do not even exist. Between the two, the 2018 Silverado is by far the better choice to make, but you be the judge!

Interiors

2018 Nissan Titan

With an overall interior rating of 3 stars, it’s already not looking good for the Titan, even though the interior and cargo room are supposed to be its selling points. The most exciting things Nissan has to offer are its standard Zero Gravity seats, which look unique and stand out amongst a boring plastic interior. Critics do like the appearance of the new Midnight Edition package, saying it looks nice paired with the black and charcoal color scheme.

There is cargo room, but critics say the back seating is still lacking in space. Cargo space gets an overall rating of 4 stars from critics, which is the highest rating the Titan will see. This is due to its low lift-over height, and interior storage space which is useful but still identical to the Silverado when it comes to available cubby space.

2018 Chevy Silverado

The Silverado saw a 4-star rating, so it’s already ahead of the game. The interior is both spacious and functional, and space around the seats both in front and in back is substantial.  It also has two bed lengths: the 6.6-foot and 8.0-foot which is great for extra cargo room beyond what the interior has to offer. The interior has more than enough space, both under and behind seats as well as a huge console, and gigantic door pockets.

Infotainment

2018 Nissan Titan

Titan also only racks up 3 stars in infotainment. That’s not great. Silverado scored a 5-star rating among critics, by comparison. Though responsive, NissanConnect is not everyone’s favorite display. It’s also incompatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The NissanConnect touchscreen display is 7.0-inches, same as Silverado. And though easy to navigate, the menus are not as comprehensive as the Silverado. The screen also washes out when hit with direct sunlight.

2018 Chevy Silverado

It might even seem silly to compare the two since Silverado received a 5-star infotainment rating. That rating is mostly due to 3 things: response times, compatibility, and connectivity. It should go without saying that the Silverado is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and has all the volts, and USB ports car buyers are looking for. Critics by far prefer Silverado’s 7.0-inch MyLink touchscreen due to its visibility and interactivity, that and its intuitive menu.

Engines

2018 Nissan Titan

The 2018 Nissan Titan scored one of the lowest ratings in its class, 2.5 stars, for its engine and transmission rating. Critics prefer the Titan’s V-8 gas engine paired with the 7-speed automatic transmission to the Cummins diesel, which they consider unrefined. Though they prefer the V-8, it only gets up to 390 hp. Still, the Cummins diesel gets only 310 hp, which is more than 100 hp less than what the Silverado diesel gets, and it’s noisy too!

2018 Chevy Silverado

Getting up to 445 horsepower with 910 lb-ft of torque, with its diesel engine, it’s no surprise that the 2018 Silverado gets a 4.5-star rating from critics. Critics are pleased with all of the revisions that Silverado made to its engines, making the components more refined, more capable, and even less noisy. Once again, Silverado engineers achieve the necessary enhancements that truck enthusiasts want in a top-of-the-class work vehicle. It also manages to beat out the Nissan Titan in fuel economy.

Fuel Economy

2018 Nissan Titan

One of the reasons that Silverado was able to beat out the Titan in fuel economy is because the Titan hasn’t even been tested. Since the Titan qualifies as a heavy-duty vehicle, the EPA is not required to test its fuel economy. In fact, the EPA made an exception and tested the Silverado based on the fact that its diesel engine was more refined than the competition. Suffice it to say, even the Titan’s optional diesel engine wasn’t compelling enough to warrant exception, and critics don’t have much hope for it scoring high with real-world economy numbers.

2018 Chevy Silverado

So once again the Silverado beats the competition with another 4.5-star rating. To be fair, most other vehicles in its class have not been tested, and so, of course, it would have the highest rating. However, against prospective fuel economy numbers of other models, the Silverado still scored surprisingly high with a 19 mpg highway rating that is at least 2 points higher than what was expected. It’s clear that Silverado has bested the competition and has blown the Nissan Titan completely out of the water.

So, You Decide!

Although the 2018 Chevy Silverado seems to outshine the 2018 Nissan Titan in several categories, ultimately it is up to you to decide which vehicle works best for you. To make your final decision, visit your local dealerships and see these pickup trucks in person.

2019 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe

2019 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe

2019 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe

As other vehicles downsize, Chevrolet’s full-size utes seem to keep growing more large and in charge. For 2019, the burbling 6.2-liter V-8 that debuted on Chevy’s 2018 RST Performance Edition of the Tahoe and, later, the Suburban is now also available on fancier versions of both SUVs.

Ordering these trucks with the new Premier Plus package brings the 420-hp V-8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission, but without the RST’s body-color grille and blacked-out gloss trim. A traditional chrome appearance, including for the 22-inch wheels, pairs with a black-and-brown leather interior and heated and cooled front seats. A sunroof, power-retracting side steps, polished exhaust tip, a head-up display, an upgraded 8.0-inch display in the instrument cluster, and a rear Blu-ray entertainment system come along for the ride. Speaking of that ride, Magnetic Ride Control—GM’s innovative adaptive-damper system—is also standard, along with 4G LTE Wi-Fi and a cute little collapsible cargo organizer.

2019 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe

Ron Westphal Chevrolet will happily add this package, which totals more than $14,000 with the mandatory Sun, Entertainment, and Destinations package, in either rear- or all-wheel drive models. Starting prices for the Tahoe Premier Plus are $75,395 with rear-wheel drive and $78,495 for AWD. The Suburban version retails for $78,195, with AWD an extra $3100.  Contact our Customer Care Team inside our showroom or call 630-898-9630 for YOUR price.

All-New 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Gets Advanced Towing Features

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Gets Advanced Towing features

The brand-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets many high-tech towing features to improve customers’ trailering experiences.

Looking for your own new 2019 Silverado?  Call our Customer Care Team now at 630-898-9630 for details about how you can get the first one!  Search Silverado Here.

All light-duty Silverado models will have the myChevrolet mobile app trailering capability and customers can add to it the Advanced Trailering System. It also comes with a Trailering Camera Package and a trailering label that helps with calculating the combined weight of customers’ truck and trailer combinations.

While the development of the all-new Silverado was in process, Chevrolet was apparently in conversation with 7,000 customers over the course of 18,000 hours. Among those surveyed, 60 percent named towing as a priority and trailering difficulties was another thing that came up. To resolve this, all four trailering levels offered on the 2019 Silverado 1500 are aimed to provide customers easier trailer hitching and improved connectivity between truck and trailer.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Gets Advanced Towing features my chevrolet app

The myChevrolet app will offer select trailering features such as pre-departure step-by-step towing checklists and a glossary of towing terms for compatible smart phones and data plans. The app also allows drivers to carry out a trailer light test that uses an automatic exterior light sequence to help affirm proper connection of the trailer.

The Advanced Trailering System is standard on LTZ and High Country trim levels and available on LT, RST, and Trail Boss trim levels. It includes an industry-first Auto Parking Brake Assist which prevents truck roll while aligning with the trailer hitch when the vehicle is put into Hitch View, and with it comes Hitch Guidance which features dynamic backing guidelines to help customers line up their hitch. Also included is a trailer tire pressure monitoring system; this, however, requires optional equipment and dealer installation.

This Advanced Trailering System Infotainment app that accompanies the system allows customers to track the mileage, fuel economy, and transmission temperature of their truck while towing. Customers can create up to five profiles for different trailer types, including those for guest trailers. The brake gain memory, which works with the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, allows customers to set and save the controller’s brake gain setting for each trailer within their profile.

Another industry-first is the Trailer Theft Alert. It can activate the truck’s lights and horn if the trailer harness attached to the truck is disconnected unexpectedly. Customers who are signed up with the OnStar Safety & Security Plan will also receive a theft alert via phone, text, or email.

Then there is the all-new Trailer Camera Package which enhances trailering views with a 270-degree view using a standard rear vision camera and two side view cameras mounted in the side mirrors. An optional fourth accessory camera that mounts to the trailer is also available.

Chevrolet has created a trailering label, located on the driver’s side door jamb of all next-generation 2019 Silverado pickups. This label which is tied to VINs of individual trucks, provides information such as gross vehicle and combined weight rating, gross axle weight rating (rear), maximum payload, maximum tongue weight, and curb weight.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will go on sale in the fall of 2018.

Corvette Grand Sport Had 15-Mile Lifespan

A lovely 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is currently looking for a new loving home after being abused by its previous owner who must have left it for dead on the side of the road after realizing that a 460-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive car simply was too much for him or her. Oh, and after smashing into an immovable object, too.

Looking for a Corvette that’s all in one piece?  Call our Customer Care Team at 630-898-9630 or visit our website.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for innocent bystanders, the former owner of this lovely Sebring Orange ‘Vette found out rather quickly that a machine of this caliber must be treated with respect. How quickly? Just 15 miles. According to Copart, the salvage vehicle auction company in charge of selling the disfigured beauty, this 2019 Grand Sport has only 15 miles on the odometer in addition to front-end and undercarriage damage.

Corvette Grand Sport Had 15-Mile Lifespan
This Corvette Grand Sport Had 15-Mile Lifespan

Unlike the McLaren 720S that was recently crashed during the first 24 hours of ownership, there isn’t much of a backstory to this Corvette. It’s not clear whether it was privately owned or it belonged to a private dealership’s inventory. However, it really wouldn’t be a huge surprise if it had been crashed by a rogue dealership employee going for a joy ride, or an overzealous customer “sampling the goods” on a test drive. Regardless of what happened, someone’s loss can be another person’s gain.

The ’70s: How Chevrolet Supported Racers Without Supporting Racers

The ’70s: How Chevrolet Supported Racers Without Supporting Racers

General Motors has always been one of the big-dogs of the performance industry, and the Chevrolet division has always been at the forefront of what it meant to be a performance-car manufacturer. Even going back to the 1950s, when Chevrolet organized the creation of the fabled Black Widow 1957 Chevy, they were challenging all comers.

Need GM parts?  Call our Parts/Accessories Dept. at 630-898-9630 or visit our website.

It was only a few years after that iconic Tri-Five was built that Chevy was essentially forced to stop support of sanctioned racing. There were several contributing factors to the public boycott, and the sale of performance parts was nearly brought to a complete halt.

old chevy performance vehicle

Another one of our articles from 2010, “The History of GM Factory-Backed Racing: On, Off, and On Again” talks about the full history of Chevrolet racing and their relationship with the performance industry. The biggest contributing factor to the ban – according to that article – was the sheer size and sales volume of General Motors vehicles. By 1962 and 1963, GM sales consisted of around 53 percent of the entire auto market, and the powers that be were getting worried about being forced by the U.S. government to split up. The answer: drop the performance arm. Of course, that was just publicly. If you knew what to look for, you could still get the good stuff from your local Chevy dealer.

We have something your dealer doesnt posted by Ron Westphal Chevrolet in Aurora, IL near Naperville, IL

Jim Luikens and Berger Chevrolet were “performance central” for many speed junkies.

It’s well known now that Chevrolet never really stopped making or selling performance parts. They simply weren’t publicly promoting them. Back then, Chevrolet developed a system for hiding its performance parts in plain sight – the standard parts catalog. Although no company  wide announcement was made about the “hidden” parts, a select few took matters into their own hands, cracked the code, and figured out how to order those parts. One of those intrepid sleuths was Jim Luikens, lifelong resident of Grand Rapid, Michigan, and the former parts manager for Berger Chevrolet from 1970 to 1975.

If Chevy makes it Berger has it posted by Ron Westphal Chevrolet in Aurora, IL near Naperville, IL

“I started at Berger in November of 1968. We had a department manager, and I was his assistant. Then, in June of ’70, I was pushed up to manager, and I was there until 1975. Not only did we have Chevrolet parts, but we also had the ‘Cadillacs of speed equipment’: Mr. Gasket, Holley, and all that stuff. We knew the GM parts, and all the other factories as well,” said Jim.

We thought at the time we were doing something special, but we had no idea how special it was and that it would stand the test of time – Jim Luikens

“We weren’t facing opposition from Chevy about selling the parts. But they did not help us find things. When we figured it out though, then they finally helped us,” he said. All of the parts that Chevrolet had were available through the parts book, and the parts book was where they hid everything. In a way, they were hiding the parts in plain sight, but you had to know what you were looking for. “At the time, we thought we were doing something special, but we had no idea how special it was and that it would stand the test of time,” Jim recalled.

Berger Chevrolet posted by Ron Westphal Chevrolet in Aurora, IL near Naperville

Berger Chevrolet back in the day.

The Key

“There were no parts available that were not in the parts book. After a while, I figured out the method they used to hide them. I would take the parts books home on the weekends to study them,” Jim said with a chuckle.

Chevrolet parts back in the day

A snapshot of Berger Chevrolet parts from back in the day. Are you drooling yet?

“I was driven and motivated – and a little crazy, really. I looked at what they were doing with part numbers. The parts would be there, but there would be very deceiving descriptions, or even coded descriptions. For instance, one part that comes to mind is the 36-gallon Corvette gas tank. All parts were listed in this book by group, and numbered from 0 to 8,000. The gas tanks were in the 3,000 section, and if you looked there for the 36-gallon Corvette gas tank, you’d never find it. The 36-gallon tank was actually hidden in the gas cap group. They called it a cap and tank assembly,” Jim stated.

Don’t those prices just make you sick?

Finding parts was never an exact science though, and there was a lot of trial and error involved in cracking the code. “Sometimes I would order something with the dumbest name and get exactly what I ordered,” Jim said. He would look at the item’s description and think that it sounded too weird to be right, so he would order it just to find out. Most times, he would get just what he ordered. “Other times, I would order a part and get a miraculous part that was better than I could have imagined. I basically worked backwards from the description to figure out the item.” Part of what made Jim so successful in getting these parts was the third-generation Berger that was running the dealership at the time, R. Dale Berger. “He was very accommodating,” Jim stated.

Jim explained how confusing the catalog could be. “Back then, the real deal in performance was the solid-lifter engines. If you wanted to order the Hi-performance 396-cylinder head, you had to know what to order. One part might say 396-cylinder head, and if that’s what you ordered, what you’d get was a bare 325-horse cast-iron cylinder head. The next line would say 396 with high-performance cylinder head. In that case, you would get the cylinder head for the 350 horsepower engine. The third line would say SPCL HP, and that would also have the special lifters and would be hidden in the special, high-performance nomenclature. Once I figured that out, I knew more about the nomenclature I was looking for. For instance, the camshaft for that engine would say 396 with HP, then 396 with SPCL HP, and the SPCL would have been the solid lifter cam for the 375 horsepower engine.”

Even though Chevrolet wasn’t publicly supporting racing, they still made the parts. People could still get them if they knew who to ask—Jim Luikens at Berger Chevrolet.

Another way Jim figured out which parts were the ‘hidden performance parts’, was by knowing which warehouse the parts came from. “Chevrolet had parts warehouses all over the country, and dealers would normally get their delivery from the closest warehouse. But, Chevrolet had a parts warehouse in West Virginia, and they kept the special stuff there,” he told us. If the parts were coming from the West Virginia warehouse instead of the Detroit warehouse, then he knew he was probably getting something special.

“Chevy, didn’t give us any crumbs to follow. They couldn’t. But, if you figured out where the crumbs were, then they would help. They would make sure that I got what I needed. Once they figured out that I was going to find it and I wasn’t going to be stopped, they were going to help me,” he avowed.

Success

What R. Dale Berger recognized from the beginning, was that parts sales were the key to being successful. “He realized, for every guy who could afford a 427 Camaro, there were a 1,000 guys who needed a camshaft that were were running the local dragstrip on Friday nights,” Jim said.

“In 1967, there weren’t a lot of speed companies around. There were no aftermarket parts better than what GM was putting in the cars,” Jim explained,  “That’s why we decided parts were the deal and we stocked them. People came from everywhere, because if you needed a special, tough-trotted crankshaft, you just couldn’t get one anywhere.”

Years later, the legacy lives on. We will always remember the efforts of people like Jim Luikens and R. Dale Berger, who made sure the passion for Chevrolet racing was kept alive. Jim left Berger Chevrolet in 1975 to work for Mr. Gasket. The insurance companies were starting to hand down tighter restrictions, and it was too expensive for young folks to buy and build their cars like they once had.

Even though it only lasted a few years, Jim’s time at Berger Chevrolet had a long-term impact on Chevrolet performance and the automotive industry. “As they say, I was living the dream every day,” Jim exalted.
