A power tailgate and new diesel engine highlight the changes for this iconic pickup.
The Chevrolet Silverado is a staple on worksites across the country, but it’s also commonly used as a family vehicle and daily driver. It’s one of the most popular pickups in the country, so when Chevrolet redesigned the Silverado 1500 for the 2019 model year, the automaker had to be careful not to mess with a good thing.
Call our Customer Care Team at 630-898-9630 to test drive a brand new Silverado today. The new Silverado retains the iconic split-bar grille and two tiers of headlights, but with a sleek new look that represents a fully modern pickup truck. The changes go well beyond skin-deep, too.
Here are five key things to know about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500:
1. It’s lighter, smarter, and larger.
The new design incorporates aluminum panels, such as the doors, hood, and tailgate, which results in a weight reduction of 450 pounds. Speaking of the tailgate, it is now a power-retracting unit, allowing it to open and close with the push of a button. The power tailgate is standard on the luxurious High Country trim.
The new Silverado features a wide bed floor that creates more bed space overall. Inside, the Silverado features clever compartments in the seat backs, helping to extract usable space from every corner of the truck.
2. It has a new diesel engine.
The new engine is a Duramax 3.0-liter, inline-six diesel, which will provide the torque of a V8 with improved fuel economy.
Chevrolet will continue to offer the 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines, which now incorporate “dynamic fuel management” to save fuel. Many modern V8 engines can shut down multiple cylinders to run more efficiently, but it usually means rows or banks of cylinders working in tandem. To conserve fuel, “dynamic fuel management” can shut down or activate any combination of cylinders at any time.
Both the Duramax diesel and the gas V8 engines route power through a new 10-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says there will be six engine/transmission options.
3. It’s a high-tech pickup.
The Silverado features multiple USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and 4G LTE/Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The Silverado comes standard with a 7-inch color touchscreen and is available with an 8-inch color touchscreen. Both run Chevy’s MyLink, which has a logical layout and large, easy-to-read fonts and icons. MyLink also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for enhanced connectivity.
Trims for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado are Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trailboss, LT, RST, LT Trailboss, LTZ, and High Country.
The base Work Truck comes standard with a black grille with massive “CHEVROLET” graphic across the grille and tailgate. It also features blacked-out trim and 17-inch steel wheels.
Next up, the Custom features a body-color paint coordination and available integrated exhaust ports. The LT features chrome-accented bumpers, as well as a chrome-front grille and mirror caps. It also features signature LED daytime running lights. The LT gets the 8-inch color touchscreen standard, and it’s available with leather seating.
The upscale LTZ features plenty of chrome accents and a hockey-stick belt line. It also features power-folding, heated outside mirrors. Inside, leather upholstery comes standard.
The range-topping High Country features its own unique grille design. It also features the power up/down tailgate as standard equipment.
4. The new Trailboss trim is rugged and gorgeous.
The first images of the new Silverado were of the Trail Boss trim, and it made quite an impression. The Trail Boss is based on the LT trim and adds the Z71 Off-Road package, a 2-inch suspension lift, a locking rear differential, Rancho shocks, 18-inch wheels, and off-road tires.
5. The new RST trim aims toward on-road performance.
Another new trim for 2019 is the Silverado RST. Once again based on the LT, this trim is geared toward on-road performance, and it features full-color matching bumpers and accents. In addition to the monotone look, the RST features LED headlights, fog lights, and taillights. It also features 22-inch wheels with all-season tires.
